The Spanish football federation (RFEF) has given its approval for a December La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona to be held in Miami.
The game, which is scheduled for the week of Dec. 20, is currently set to be played at Villarreal's Estadio de La Cerámica.
But both teams have signaled their approval for the game to be relocated to Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
"In its meeting on Aug. 11, 2025, the board of the RFEF has learned of the request from clubs Villarreal CF and FC Barcelona to play their matchday 17 first division game in the United States," the RFEF said in a statement on Monday.
"After receiving and checking the documentation received, and after the approval of the Board of Directors, the RFEF will submit to UEFA the request to begin the procedures for the subsequent authorization by FIFA for the match to be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, on Dec. 20, 2025, in accordance with the FIFA International Match Regulations and the implementing rules approved by the RFEF."

The match would be the first European top-flight fixture to ever be held in the United States.
Hosting the game outside of Spain was previously not possible under FIFA regulations, but the door was opened when FIFA exited a lawsuit from U.S.-based promoter Relevent Sports last year.
Relevent charged that FIFA was acting as a monopoly in refusing to sanction matches outside of their home countries. The lawsuit stemmed from FIFA's decision to not allow a 2019 La Liga match between Barcelona and Girona at Hard Rock Stadium.
La Liga president Javier Tebas said last year that he wanted his league to be the first to make the leap and play matches outside its home country.
