Liverpool might not allow Harvey Elliott to stay in the Premier League, thus jeopardising Tottenham Hotspur transfer hopes
Last season turned out to be a historic one for Tottenham. The club secured a Champions League berth for the 2025/26 season by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final. The foundation built under Ange Postecoglou is being taken over by Thomas Frank this summer, and the team is undergoing a wave of change.
Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel have already strengthened the attack. Son’s departure was a big blow, but the presence of Joao Palhinha has given strength to the midfield. The club still want to increase their offensive options, and this is where new discussions have intensified.
There is another name doing the rounds in North London these days—Harvey Elliott. James Maddison’s ACL injury at Tottenham have increased the need for a creative midfield option. Meanwhile, Liverpool are considering selling Elliott. According to Football Insider, the Reds would like to send him out of the Premier League this summer. RB Leipzig appears to be the frontrunner, but Spurs are now more interested than ever.We even reported earlier that Frank has ahd direct talks with the English attacking midfielder.
Robinson’s clear message
Liverpool might not allow Harvey Elliott to stay in the Premier League, thus jeopardising Tottenham Hotspur transfer hopes.
Harvey Elliott could “come back to bite” Liverpool in the future if they sell him to RB Leipzig without a buy-back clause this summer
Former England and Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Liverpool would not want to sell Elliott in England. He said it would be better for them to send him to RB Leipzig, where they can have the first choice or a buy-back clause.
Robinson warned that the 22-year-old player could also harm the Merseyside club in the future. He said that Liverpool will not stop Elliott from leaving the club, but keeping the Englishman in the Premier League is not their priority.
Spurs’ challenge in the transfer race
Robinson indicated that Leipzig are at the front of the queue and Liverpool will put pressure to go there. For Tottenham, it is a battle of time. Maddison’s injury has created an opportunity, but if Leipzig and Liverpool reach an agreement quickly, Spurs could be left empty-handed.
“I think Liverpool will be reluctant to sell [Elliott back] into the Premier League. I think the ideal situation for Liverpool will be [a move to] RB Leipzig – which is looking likely – with first refusal or a buy-back clause, because at 22 years old, he’s one that could come back to bite you.
Liverpool will push for the Leipzig move, they’re not going stand in his way to allow him to go and play football. I’d be surprised if they wanted to sell him within the Premier League, but stranger things have happened. I think Leipzig are at the front of queue, with a decent buy-back clause for Liverpool.”
We see weight in Robinson’s opinion. Liverpool have no reason to hang the sword over their own head in the Premier League. It would be a pity for Spurs if Elliott really went to Leipzig, as he would bring a different creativity to our current midfield. In Frank’s system, he could play from the right wing and create space in the middle, which would open up space for Kudus and Tel. With Palhinha protecting him behind him, he could play attacking passes.
We believe Spurs should push for Elliott until the last minute. This deal could further increase our attacking edge. Leipzig are a strong contender, but if we present the right offer and vision, it is not impossible to bring Elliott to our club.
