Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith believes Gabriel Jesus could be one of the high-profile departures from the Emirates this summer, citing the Brazilian’s injury record and the club’s reshaped attacking options.
Speaking on the future of Arsenal’s forward line, Smith suggested that Mikel Arteta may opt to move Jesus on following the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres and the growing influence of Kai Havertz in central roles.

“I think somebody like Gabriel Jesus might go given his track record with injuries,” Smith explained. “He might be one that you say, thanks, and try and move him on, get a bit of money in. Obviously, with Viktor Gyökeres and Kai Havertz, there might not be too many opportunities for him this season.”

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and made an immediate impact, bringing energy, link-up play, and experience to Arteta’s evolving side. However, repeated spells on the sidelines have prevented him from establishing consistent form, and his goal return has been scrutinised as Arsenal push for silverware.
Competition intensifies up front

The signing of Gyökeres from Sporting CP has given Arteta a new, physically dominant focal point in attack, while Havertz’s adaptation to a hybrid forward-midfield role provides further depth. With both players capable of leading the line, Jesus could find his minutes reduced in the upcoming season.
Arsenal’s attacking reshuffle also reflects a shift in style, the Gunners have looked more direct in pre-season, with wide players and midfielders encouraged to supply quick service to the number nine. This may not naturally suit Jesus’ preference for dropping deep and linking play.
Decisions to be made

While Smith’s comments underline the uncertainty around Jesus’ future, any decision will depend on Arsenal’s ability to secure the right offer and maintain sufficient attacking depth for a campaign that includes Champions League football.
For now, Jesus remains part of the squad, but with transfer business still active, his role could be one of the more significant storylines to watch in the final weeks of the window.
