The genius Liverpool and Brentford transfer swap deal that could finish summer on a high

Liverpool will be keen to get some more business done before the summer transfer window closes

Liverpool have been active on the recruitment front so far this summer as they gear up for the start of the new Premier League season. They have delved into the market to bring in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong, among others. The Reds have the opportunity to sign more players between now and the end of the transfer window on Monday 1st September.

Arne Slot was picked as their manager last year after catching the eye in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. The Dutchman has since done an impressive job at Anfield and has adapted well to life in England. He managed to win the league title at the first time of asking.

Liverpool eye Brentford defender Nathan Collins

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Brentford defender Nathan Collins. As per Give Me Sport, the centre-back has reportedly emerged on their radar. It remains to be seen at this stage whether they will lodge an official offer for his services over the coming weeks.

Collins, 24, could be seen by the Reds as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. He is still young and has potential to get better in the future as well.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has 30 caps under his belt, moved over to England as a teenager in 2016 from Cherry Orchard. He initially played for Stoke City and broke into their first-team as a youngster. The County Kildare-born ace went on to play 47 games for the Potters in all competitions and chipped in with two goals in the Championship.

Collins then made the step up to the top flight and had spells at Burnley and Wolves. Brentford came calling in 2023 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of the Bees’ most prized assets and they may well face a battle to keep hold of him in the future amid reported attention from elsewhere.

Virgil van Dijk isn’t getting any younger and although he has penned an extension recently, he won’t be around forever. Therefore, Slot needs to start thinking about possible long-term replacements. Collins is someone who has played a decent amout of games already and has potential.

Liverpool should propose Joe Gomez swap deal

Brentford won’t want to lose Collins and rightly so, he is a key player for the London club. Therefore, Liverpool may need to think outside the box in terms of their specific transfer pursuit. They should try and offer Joe Gomez plus cash as part of a swap deal arrangement with the Bees.

That means that Keith Andrews’ side won’t be left short changed if they sold him and they would get a player back in return. Gomez, 28, has fallen out of favour and needs to leave for a change of scene. He isn’t guaranteed game time anymore and would get plenty of minutes if he left for the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Londoner rose up through Charlton Athletic’s academy and was a regular for the Addicks at various different youth levels before making the step up into the senior team picture at The Valley. Liverpool then swooped in for his signature in 2015 and he has been with them for the past decade now. He has played 241 matches, 17 of which came last term.

Gomez has never scored but is experienced at the top level. Brentford would benefit from having someone like him at their disposal. He knows the division inside out and can play full-back as well as in the middle which would come in handy for Andrews as he looks to step into Thomas Frank’s shoes.
