Last week, Gianluca di Marzio named Atalanta as a key candidate to sign Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz.
While the London club also saw Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta as a target, the Brazilian striker was seen as the main option to replace the departed Mateo Retegui.
Gazzetta dello Sport report today that Muniz asked to not feature in Fulham’s pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday because he wants a move to Atalanta.
The report claims that talks are on between the two clubs regarding the 24-year-old’s permanent transfer to the Bergamo side.
For now, Fulham want €45m but the newspaper are confident that with Muniz pushing for a transfer, the asking price can go lower.
As a result, Atalanta’s offer of €40m plus bonuses can be accepted, with La Dea looking to find an agreement for Muniz by the middle of this week.
Ivan Juric’s side take on Juventus in their opening Serie A game on Friday and they are looking to have the striker available for that clash, with Mateta’s valuation now seen as too high after his performance against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield Final on Sunday.
