As fans await the second season of Dan Fogelman's hit sci-fi thriller Paradise, his next project on Hulu takes shape. Recent reports reveal that Shameless star William H. Macy has been cast in the untitled NFL drama. H. Macy will play Hank Durkin in a role he's billed as a series regular. The series has already cast Christopher Meloni in the lead role of Danny Roarke, the head coach of an NFL team. Details about it remain scarce, as the name has not been announced, but it is expected to feature a generational family angle. The series is written by and executive produced by Fogelman, best known for creating the hit NBC series, This Is Us, which costarred Paradise lead, Sterling K. Brown.
H. Macy has been a consistent figure in the world of television and film, but is arguably best known for playing Frank Gallagher in the Showtime drama series Shameless. He played the deadbeat patriarch of the Gallagher family for eleven seasons, a role that earned him numerous nominations, including an Emmy and SAG awards. He is also a director, having made his feature directorial debut with the 2014 film Rudderless. His other directorial undertakings include movies like The Layover and Krystal. H. Macy will next be seen in the remake of The Running Man and Train Dreams, in addition to this new role.
What's the Status of 'Paradise' Season 2?
Production has been going on for some time, but there is no premiere date for the much-anticipated season. The freshman season introduced viewers to the world of Paradise, exploring the present timeline inside a bunker after a world-ending apocalypse and delving into the events that led up to it. Season 2 is expected to continue exploring life in the bunker, but will also venture outside to reveal what happened and how the world is doing. "It is a much different season this year, where we explore outside the bunker as well, and there’s a lot more action in different locations, and the energy sort of ramps up as the season goes on," K. Brown teased recently. Speaking about how the storylines would be explored, Fogelman said:
This year, we kind of have two different present-day storylines going where Sterling is on this mission to find out what where his wife may be and if she’s alive, and then also, what are the ramifications of him having left and all the things that happened at the end of the bunker? So we spend a lot of time split between the two, and rather than it just getting disjointed when we’re in one timeline, that’s when we tend to use the past stories of those characters, as opposed to just constantly doing a back and forth in the same episodes. But eventually, storylines collide and it all comes together.”
