Report: Hull City hope to 'strike deal' with Manchester United starlet who Sheffield Wednesday have targeted

Despite restrictions to their transfer business, Hull City have had a relatively positive summer.

The EFL placed a three-window transfer fee ban on the Tigers back in July, a decision that proved costly at first as Louie Barry made his way to Sheffield United rather than returning to the MKM Stadium.

Nevertheless, they have already beaten Swansea City to Oli McBurnie, while Ozan Tufan was delighted at John Lundstram joining the East Yorkshire outfit on loan for 2024/25.

Middlesbrough are interested in goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, but Hull believe they will be able to keep hold of him and they are pressing on with their own signings, with Sergej Jakirovic now showing an interest in a Manchester United youngster.

Hull City look to hijack any potential Sheffield Wednesday deal for Toby Collyer

With the Tigers limited to free agents and loanees, it’s no surprise to see the club looking at Premier League clubs for young stars.

Sheffield Wednesday are keen on Toby Collyer, but Hull are looking to upset the Owls and poach the 21-year-old, according to Alan Nixon.

He said: “Manchester United babe Toby Collyer is wanted on loan by Hull City. Tigers hope to strike a deal for the midfielder who is available to go out from Old Trafford – and chased by several Championship sides.

“Sheffield Wednesday are in the queue but Hull hope they have a better case to offer the player and United. Collyer played for United’s first team at the end of last season but his chances of game time are now more likely to be out on loan.”

The Tigers will be keen to get one over Sheffield Wednesday in the transfer window

Both Sheffield Wednesday and Hull are facing difficult times, although the Owls’ situation is a lot more pressing at the moment with a football financier teaming up with John Textor in a bid to rescue the club.

Henrik Pedersen needs more depth in his squad, especially after Nathaniel Chalobah went down injured against Leicester City on Sunday.

However, Hull perhaps have a much better chance of avoiding relegation and this could play a part in Manchester United’s decision making as they choose who Collyer joins for the 2025/26 Championship campaign. Although game time may be more regular at Hillsborough.

Nonetheless, as Nixon stated, the Tigers are confident of bringing the midfielder to the club this summer with three weeks to go until deadline day on 1 September.
