Nottingham Forest are inching closer to signing James McAtee, with an agreement in excess of £20 million likely to be struck.
According to The Athletic, James McAtee is getting closer to becoming a Nottingham Forest player, as talks with Manchester City are at an advanced stage. The versatile midfielder has a year left on his deal, and the prospect of establishing himself as a regular Premier League player has pushed him towards the exit door, as the two clubs are close to finalising an agreement in excess of £20 million.
James McAtee was expected to leave Manchester City last summer, but chose to stay and give himself another chance of breaking into Pep Guardiola’s team. The versatile midfielder has plenty of experience in the top flight, from last season and his loan spell with Sheffield United in the campaign before, when he made 30 appearances.
The versatile midfielder is in the final year of his deal, and given that he was only selected thrice to start in the Premier League last season, an exit seems to be on the cards. Manchester City were keen to maximise his value, as it appears a sale to Nottingham Forest is inching closer.
Nottingham Forest had been interested in McAtee for a while now, as Nuno Espirito Santo appreciates his versatility for his squad. However, there have been many outgoings, as the manager wants to bring some quality additions for the season ahead.
Talks with Manchester City have progressed, and now inching closer to completion, as the player seems to be open to joining the Tricky Trees. Tottenham were also linked recently following their need to replace the injured James Maddison, but it appears Forest are the favourites to land the midfielder.
James McAtee set for Nottingham Forest move
As per Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City are close to finding an agreement for the transfer of McAtee for a fee in excess of £20 million. With the 22-year-old Manchester City prodigy entering the final year, the value seems fair for both clubs, with the selling side likely to make a pure profit on their homegrown star.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are making changes to their attack and midfield this summer. They did make some key signings before the CWC, and now they are parting ways with Jack Grealish, Savinho and McAtee, as they are already targeting the likes of Rodrygo to come into the team ahead of the next period in the window.
