Alexander Isak playing a risky game as Ben Jacobs shares latest on Newcastle and Liverpool saga …

Alexander Isak could make a U-turn over his future at Newcastle United despite wanting to join Liverpool.

Isak is desperate to leave Newcastle this summer and the Reds have already seen a huge offer rejected.

Liverpool could make another bid for Isak, although Newcastle continue to insist he’s simply not for sale.

Perhaps that could change if Newcastle can find two adequate replacements during what remains of the summer window, though there is little guarantee of that.

If the Sweden international does end up staying – and that feels like a huge if at this point – then it will be fascinating to see what kind of reaction he gets from Toon supporters next season.

Indeed, Isak may have to try and work himself back into the fold at St James’ Park, and a fresh update has now emerged.

When Alexander Isak could make U-turn over Newcastle United future

According to GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Isak will only consider trying to make amends at Newcastle and potentially sign a new contract when Liverpool confirm to him that a deal simply cannot be done this summer.

It’s added that Liverpool will make another offer if Newcastle give them any encouragement.

Geordie Boot Boys have previously been told that Newcastle are not in contract talks with Isak, such is his desire to move away.

If he does stay, however, then those discussions can be held.

The former Real Sociedad striker has three years remaining on his contract on Tyneside.

Even if Liverpool return with a fresh offer, Newcastle are not certain to accept it as they will still need to find replacements.

Little about what the club have done in the transfer market so far would suggest that is likely – particularly with so little time left in the window.

It’s starting to feel like the striker has backed himself into a corner. He is under contract at Newcastle yet is reportedly waiting for another club to decide whether or not he’ll start engaging again.

With a World Cup on the horizon, that’s a major risk. Granted, he’s not likely to drop out of the Sweden squad altogether but he’d hardly be putting his best foot forward if he’s happy to bide his time before preparing for the new season.

Sadly for Isak, it’s not up to him when he’s sold. There’s no issue with wanting to leave, but the manner in which this has all played out has been hugely disappointing.

Howe has warned Isak that he’s got to earn the right to play for Newcastle again, so it does not seem as if he will be instantly welcomed back with open arms if and when he decides he’s ready to continue.

Until Liverpool return with a new offer, the limbo continues. It’s not good for Newcastle, nor is it good for Alexander Isak.
