“It is unique, it’s different” Chiefs President Mark Donovan Previews the Huskers season opener at Arrowhead

St. Joseph, MO. (KOLN) - Nebraska Football is 17 days away from opening their season at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Ahead of the game, Chiefs President, Mark Donovan, discussed how the game came to fruition as well as his expectations.

“We are really excited to bring the Husker fans down to GEHA Field and Arrowhead Stadium, and have them experience what it is like here... We think it is going to be a really cool experience for the fans and the for the teams,” Mark Donovan said.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting a preseason game against the Chicago Bears on August 22. After the game, the Chiefs staff will transition the field for the Battle Sports Kansas City Classic.

According to Donovan, the strong ties Nebraska fans have with the Chiefs was one of the driving forces in picking the Huskers for the KC Classic.

“The loyalty and support of the huskers and their fans... that has shown up. We have done pretty much what we expected if not more in terms of ticket sales,” Donovan said.

Per Nebraska Athletic Director, there were over 66,000 tickets sold 3 weeks out from the game with an estimated 60,000 tickets being bought by Husker fans.

“We know that the Nebraska faithful is loud, proud, and have been traveling for decades to watch their team. The expectation they can have is a comfortable vibrant environment, it will be different than Memorial Stadium, but if they have been to a chiefs game... it will be the same kind of energy,” Matt Kenny, EVP of Arrowhead Operations & Events, said.

Nebraska faces Cincinnati on August 28, at 8:00 P.M. CT. at Arrowhead Stadium.
