Sesko is now the first option; there is no clearance on whether Hojlund will be sold this summer, and Zirkzee is already in the squad. In such a situation, Calvert-Lewin will have limited opportunities. Given his age and recent form, he will probably want to move to a team where he gets regular playing time. United’s forward line is already crowded, and the Englishman’s move to Old Trafford would not be the best move for his own progress.
United should now focus their energies on players who can make an immediate impact. Calvert-Lewin could be a reliable backup, but the club need star performers more than backups at the moment. If this transfer happens, it will be to add depth to Amorim’s thinking, not to change the season.
