Sophomore Cam Little turned heads when he successfully kicked a 70-yard field goal when the Jacksonville Jaguars faced the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 of the preseason. After all, it's not often that you see a kicker make an attempt of 60 yards or more, let alone nail it.
Sure, the field goal took place in the preseason, so it didn't break the current record of 66 yards, but it was impressive nonetheless. To nobody's surprise, Little is the talk of the town, and special teams coach Heath Farwell's remarks show just how hyped up the Jags are about their second-year kicker.
Jaguars specail teams coach Heath Farwell is impressed with Cam Little
Following Day 13 of training camp, Heath Farwell met with the local media and said that watching Cam Little make the field goal was a special moment.
"That was a special moment. I think the group you know, not only the specialist, realized how cool that was, but you saw the team just get behind Cam, and they realized how talented he is and the type of person he is, so they love him to death," Farwell responded when asked about his thoughts on the field goal (11:27 mark). "And you can just see the excitement, not only for the team, but for him and our group. So pretty cool moment."
Farwell continued, "Obviously, it's preseason, you know, we understand that, but it was so cool to be a part of that. And again, because he's so talented, because the operation is so great, you feel comfortable sending [him] out there in those kind of unique positions."
Later in the exchange, Farwell praised Little for how mature he was as a rookie, noting that having punter Logan Cooke and long-snapper Ross Matiscik around has helped him greatly.
"He's not a rookie, and he wasn't even last year. There were times when I had to kind of remind myself of, don't forget this guy is a rookie, because I kind of took it for granted at times of all those little things that he'd never seen or never done. But I think it's a big part of those two guys, those two leaders that are next to him. Those guys just lead them big time. They're his big brother," Farwell said.
"I mean, they just look after him, they pick on him like a little brother, but they also take him out of their wing, and they just put great leadership for him and but yeah, he's so mature."
Leaving aside that Little connected his 70-yard attempt, he went 4-of-4 against the Steelers in the opener. As a rookie, he had a 93.1 completion percentage and went 5-of-6 from 50 yards out.

Why the Jaguars have a weapon in Cam Little
The Jaguars will want to score touchdowns, but if their offense comes up short, they know they can rely on Cam Little, as he's proven that he can deliver if called upon, dating back to his collegiate days. Having said that, you won't see him attempting 70-yard field goals often.
After all, his chances of making it decrease considerably after the 55 yards, and failing would give the opposing team a short field to work with. Then again, the Jags won't hesitate to call Little in the 50-60 yard range.
Ultimately, it's hard to tell how the 2025 season will go for the Jaguars, but based on Cam Little's performance dating back to his rookie season, kicker won't be an area of concern.
