It’s been 10 years since Trevor Siemian played his first game for the Denver Broncos, but the journeyman NFL quarterback is back in the league and may face his old team in Week 1.
Siemian signed with the Tennessee Titans on Monday as they waived fellow veteran Tim Boyle. The 33-year-old last played in the NFL during the 2023 season, though he has been on the Titans’ practice squad since early last fall. Siemian has played in 40 games and gotten 33 starts with a 15-18 record across seven seasons. He’s thrown for 7,751 yards with 44 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. He started 24 games for the Broncos in 2016 and 2017, serving as the primary starter the year after Denver won Super Bowl 50.
The Titans are working on solutions at quarterback after drafting Cam Ward No. 1, though he wasn’t given the job right away. Returning gunslinger Will Levis got hurt, meaning at the very least a backup job opened up that Boyle didn’t win. Another former Brandon Allen is still on the roster. But with there being a rookie and a road game in Denver for Week 1, may a more experienced option be what the Titans pick? If so, Siemian may play against the Broncos for the first time just weeks after joining Tennessee.
In fact, No. 1 overall picks on the road in Week 1 have won just once in NFL history — and that was the Broncos with John Elway in 1983, in a game he got benched.
The Broncos’ post-Super Bowl odyssey to find a quarterback started with Siemian and included Allen, but it has ended on Bo Nix, who will be meeting whomever the Titans throw out there on Sept. 7.
