The Serbian stopper must have excellent feelings for penalties, though – as he has a history of saving from the spot.
In fact, he became the fastest player to reach five penalty saves while at New England Revolution in the MLS and saved a penalty against Newcastle in a shootout to send Chelsea through in the Carabao Cup.
On Saturday, he successfully kept out Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty, saving well down to his left.
But, when asked about his process for penalties by the Daily Echo, the keeper said beyond looking at the information provided by the goalkeeper coaches, he just relies on feeling when faced with a spot kick.
_(Image: Richard Crease)_ “I don't know, you know, it's a preparation for the game, you always get information from goalkeeper coaches and that's it,” he said.
“It's just a feeling.
“Something you get like a feeling before the main taker takes the ball and then you see who is going to take a penalty. It's just this, you know. So it's just a feeling.
“It's nothing like practicing or something like that. It's just a feeling.”
Petrovic was playing in front of a home crowd for the first time in a Bournemouth shirt, with the game against Sociedad the final one in the side’s pre-season preparations.
Reflecting on the game, Petrovic said: “I think we had defensively a really good game.
“We played against a really good team with very good players and they play really nice, very nice football. So yeah we are happy about the clean sheet.
“We had our chances to score the goal as well. Remiro \[Real Sociedad's keeper\] made some nice saves. So yeah, hopefully that will go in.”
The 25-year-old believes the Cherries have prepared well for the season to come, with a good pre-season campaign under their belts.
_(Image: Richard Crease)_ He is not too worried about the two defeats in pre-season, to Manchester United and West Ham, and believes those came down to errors that will be ironed out come the start of the season.
“We had a really good pre-season,” Petrovic said.
“I mean the trainings, maybe some games we had to play better. We lost against Manchester United 4-1. But after on the meeting we saw all these goals happen because of all mistakes.
“But that is just like in that moment maybe a bad decision. And yeah, it's a pre-season, it's tough. You're away from home.
“Every day you have two training \[sessions\], so sometimes that happens. But you know when we get our energy back it will be good, like today was I think was good.”
