Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid had an amazing 2024 offseason. Embiid suited up for Team USA, which led to him earning his gold medal at the Paris Olympics. There is a downside, however. Instead of using the summer to allow his body to heal, it led to a tricky situation, resulting in him playing for just 19 games in the 2024-25 season.
Nonetheless, some members of the media continue to think that Embiid will compete for the United States in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Although it’s still a few years away, speculations on who will be part of the roster have started. Despite the injuries he’s had over the past few seasons, the 76ers star is still being considered.

Embiid is Expected to Join Team USA in 2028
CBS Sports’ Colin Ward-Henninger released an article where he predicted the roster for Team USA in the 2028 Olympics. He named the obvious participants, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards and Anthony Davis. Surprisingly, he included the 76ers star, despite his being 34 in 2028.
Additionally, he has a long history of injuries, preventing him from being available in the regular season for Philly.
“We’re going to choose to be optimistic here and say that Embiid will be healthy enough to contribute to Team USA in 2028. He was dominant in limited minutes in Paris, playing a major part in the Americans’ fourth-quarter comeback to beat Serbia in the semifinal,” Ward-Henninger wrote.
“There’s nobody in the world who can guard a healthy Embiid, and even though the wear and tear might limit him, his upside alone should be enough to earn him another spot on the roster.”

It’s unclear how the 76ers will feel about their franchise star suiting up in the summer instead of using the time off to take care of his body. The 2023 MVP has been through a lot of injuries throughout his career, and putting his health at risk might not be the best idea.
