Erik ten Hag could reunite with former Man Utd player, Bayer Leverkusen value his leadership - Journalist

Manchester United’s summer has been a busy one so far, with less than three weeks now until the transfer window slams shut.

There has been a whopping £196 million spent this summer by Manchester United on four signings.

To start with, United paid £62.5m for Matheus Cunha, which triggered the Brazilian’s release clause and he has so far been increasingly exciting for Ruben Amorim’s side through pre-season.

Cunha’s arrival happened quick, but it was over one month later than United announced the signing of Diego Leon, with the Paraguayan youngster costing an initial £3.2m from Cerro Porteno.

The third arrival of the summer saw Bryan Mbeumo signed by United for £65m up front, arriving after six weeks of negotiations with Brentford and looks to be settling in well.

Most recently, United confirmed the signing of Benjamin Sesko for £66m in a move which significantly upgrades the attacking force on display at Old Trafford.

Incomings have taken priority, and plenty of outgoings are expected over the coming weeks, but there are also players United let go already this summer who are seeking a new club of their own.

Erik ten Hag could bring Victor Lindelof to Bayer Leverkusen

As mid-August approaches, Manchester United’s list of players ‘sold’ this summer remains blank.

However, United have loaned out Marcus Rashford, while three first-team players also exited the club for free with their contracts expiring.

So far none of the three have found a new club, Jonny Evans became United’s loan manager after retiring from playing while both Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are clubless, but that could change.

After leaving United for free in June, Lindelof remains on the market without a club, but Florian Plettenberg has now suggested that Erik ten Hag is a potential suitor.

The German journalist reports that Lindelof is being discussed by Bayer Leverkusen, as the Bundesliga side value Lindelof’s experience and leadership qualities, especially considering he is available for free.

Ten Hag knows Lindelof very well and would likely welcome the chance to reunite with the Swede. Leverkusen are set to complete the signing of defender Loic Bade, but Plettenberg argues that this interest is separate.

Victor Lindelof played 67 times under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

This summer, Ten Hag has been linked with a move for Antony, even discussing the chances of signing the Brazilian for a third time.

However, this looks unlikely, but United’s former manager could get his ‘signing player he’s worked with before’ fix from Lindelof, despite never talking too highly of the Swedish international, labelling him ‘decent’.

“I have a lot of faith (in Lindelof and Maguire). We still have decent centre halves. They’ve proved in the past and they’ve proved this season. We have four or five very good centre halves who can do the job.”

Lindelof did play 67 times for Ten Hag at United and if this develops he could quite easily match that at Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, where his may suit playing at this stage in his career.
