Warriors unlikely landing spot for top restricted free agent

The Golden State Warriors are not actively pursuing Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey, as a potential sign-and-trade involving him and Jonathan Kuminga would be too complicated financially.

Chicago Bulls playmaker Josh Giddey's future remains one of the hottest topics in the NBA, but the rumored Golden State Warriors interest in the Australian guard appears to be overstated.

Position: PG

Age: 22

Height: 200 cm

Weight: 93 kg

Birth place: Melbourne, Australia

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, while other teams may have shown interest, Warriors sources — as well as those within the Bulls organization — confirmed they are not actively pursuing Giddey this offseason.

The Bulls have also not engaged in sign-and-trade talks with Golden State involving restricted free agents Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga, per the same report.

Financially, such a deal would be extremely difficult to pull off. A double sign-and-trade would trigger a hard cap for the Warriors and require both teams, especially Golden State, to include additional salaries to make the trade work.

Given those salary cap complications, the scenario is considered far too messy to seriously consider.

In 70 games during the 2024-25 season, Giddey averaged 14.6 points, along with career-highs in rebounds (8.1), assists (7.2), steals (1.2), and three-point percentage (37.8%).

The Bulls have reportedly offered Giddey a four-year, $80 million deal, but the restricted free agent is seeking a higher salary of around $30 million per year.
