Everton have recently reignited their pursuit of John McGinn as they look to strengthen their midfield ranks.

The Aston Villa skipper has been a key part of their resurgence in recent years, but he has been consistently linked with an exit since the start of the transfer window.

Everton were strongly linked with a move for McGinn earlier in the summer, but were unable to convince their Premier League rivals to entertain a sale.

David Moyes is still keen to add fresh faces to his squad in the last few weeks of the window, and that has seen the Toffees launch a fresh offensive to try and get their man.

Moyes holds the keys as Everton eye £20million offer for McGinn

Everton recently made another attempt to sign McGinn, but saw their initial £18million bid quickly knocked back by the West Midlanders.

The Villa Park outfit remain adamant that their captain is not for sale this summer, but there are concerns that their PSR situation could potentially force their hand.

Everton have had a busy few days in the transfer market, and it would be a big surprise if they were willing to back down from their chase of the midfielder that easily.

McGinn started 27 Premier League games for Villa last season

He now has over 200 appearances to his name in the top flight

There has been speculation that he could be about to leave Villa after seven seasons

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the Toffees will come back in with a renewed offer for McGinn, and also feels that his countryman Moyes could have a huge say on his future.

“I think Everton will (make a fresh offer),” King said.

“By the time they get to £20m, I think that‘s the kind of figure that Villa would entertain.

“Towards the back end of the season, it didn’t look as though McGinn was going to be a regular feature this season. He was either being taken off or not starting games.

“If Everton could bring him in, that would certainly be a signing which strengthens the squad, and he would be guaranteed first-team football there.

“There’s obviously going to be a big influence from the manager, and McGinn is somebody who he feels needs to come into the football club.”

The Toffees need to make a quick decision on McGinn

Everton need to make a quick decision regarding McGinn, or it could potentially derail the remainder of their transfer window.

The Toffees still need several new additions, and they now have just under three weeks to conclude their business.

With that in mind, they must either decide to up their offering to a point where Villa cannot refuse, or if they are not willing to add much more to their recent bid, then they should look elsewhere.

The last thing Moyes will want is to miss out on a new midfielder altogether because Everton spent too long chasing shadows with McGinn.
