Man Utd are one of four Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest in the 11-time England international
Manchester United are reported to be have engaged in talks with former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Ruben Amorim weighs up the idea of signing the experienced Premier League striker.
The 11-time England international has been without a club since the end of last season after turning down an offer to extend his contract with Everton. He scored 57 league goals in 240 matches for the Merseyside club and led the line under the likes of Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez, Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche and most recently ex-United boss David Moyes.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin holds talks with three Premier League clubs
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reportedly parted ways with his agent to single-handedly take charge of negotiations surrounding his future. It’s now been reported by talkSPORT that three clubs have spoken directly with Calvert-Lewin. These are Manchester United, Newcastle United and newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United.
Each club has something different that they can offer Calvert-Lewin as he weighs up the best way to get his career on track. Newcastle for example, have Champions League football secured for next season and have enjoyed a terrific rise up the football pyramid since the arrival of Eddie Howe and their PIF owners. They could potentially lose Alexander Isak to Liverpool and will likely need at least two strikers to arrive after also losing Callum Wilson on a free transfer.
United beat Newcastle to the signature of Benjamin Sesko but could still need further numbers in attack, particularly if one or both of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee was to depart. Meanwhile, Leeds are back in the league and could potentially be the best destination for Calvert-Lewin if he bases his decision solely on getting guaranteed first team minutes.
It’s reported that Calvert-Lewin had been the subject of interest from Sunderland but opted against taking that particular route due to his desire to play for a club further up the Premier League food chain.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has already outlined what he wants from his next career move
After leaving Everton, Calvert-Lewin expressed his desire to tick off more objectives that he’d not yet achieved in his career, including playing and competing in the Champions League.
During an appearance on the High Performance podcast, he explained: "When I started my career I wanted to play in the Premier League, play for England a go to major tournaments with England and play in the Champions League. I have played in a major tournament for England, I have played in the Premier League, but I haven’t played in the Champions League. There are still things I would like to achieve before my time is done.
“To have the opportunity to decide potentially where that place will be. If it gives me the best opportunity and environment to win and score goals, then that would be the return of me to the England team and playing in the Champions League. That has been my driver to play at the highest level possible. My representation of that is the Champions League, World Cups, Euros and getting into that bracket of elite players."
