FC Barcelona Defender Linked to London City Lionesses

[Maria Tikas](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/futbol-femenino/jana-fernandez-rumbo-london-city-120538459) reports that Jana Fernández is set to join the London City Lionesses. Comfortable at both right-back and centre-back, Fernández rose through the FC Barcelona youth system before making her first-team debut in November 2018 at the age of 16, becoming the second-youngest player to debut since the team turned professional.

The 2024/25 season was a standout for the defender, who made 35 appearances and helped Barça secure a historic treble. On the international stage, she featured in her first major tournament, the UEFA [Women’s Euro 2025](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-euro-2025/), reaching the final with Spain.

In February, Barcelona and Fernández agreed to activate a one-year contract extension, meaning she will depart for a transfer fee. Her exit will leave just 17 players in the first-team squad. A number that could make competing on all four fronts next season a serious challenge. The issue won’t be a lack of talent, but the heavy workload the remaining players will face.

According to Tikas, Fernández will undergo her medical later this week before linking up with former Barça teammate María Pérez in London.

Sky Sports News reports that London City Lionesses have made a formal offer for Arsenal’s Beth Mead. The England international enjoyed a hugely successful summer, winning UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland, making England back-to-back European champions.

Mead joined Arsenal in 2017 from Sunderland, where she scored an impressive 77 goals in 78 games and won the WSL Golden Boot in 2015. In the 2024/25 season, Mead made 21 WSL appearances, featured in both the Women’s FA Cup and League Cup, and played a crucial role in helping Arsenal win the Women’s Champions League. In the UWCL final against Barcelona, it was Mead who provided the assist for Stina Blackstenius, who scored the winning goal.
