The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 299: Dissecting Juventus’ win over Borussia Dortmund

Juventus have now played two friendlies this summer — one against mid-table team from Serie B and the other against a club that was in the Champions League final just a couple of years ago. And while we know that the final scores of these friendlies are not the determining factor as to whether we can ccall them a success, getting a preseason win is never a bad thing, too.

And Juventus did just that this past weekend.

Juve’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Sunday in Germany was something where both positives and negatives can be gleamed from. It’s the nature of friendly season, but in this incredibly unconventional summer where Juve don’t have many friendlies to begin with — unless you want to count the Club World Cup as something other than a more competitive series of exhibitions — seeing some good things happen and getting a win to try and build some confidence is never a bad thing.

Just remember: it’s a friendly and for all we know Igor Tudor could be talking to the media next week after Juventus’ final preseason friendly this coming weekend against Atalanta and saying not-so-positive things one week out from the 2025-26 campaign getting underway.

For now, though, we will talk about what Juventus did right — and wrong — in their friendly win over Dortmund.
