Newcastle United player’s exit to be made official today – Fee in the air for Magpies

Four days ago, we covered claims from Spain which stated Sevilla have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Odysseas Vlachodimos on loan. It was also said he will soon travel to Spain, but that didn’t happen.

At the weekend, ABC Sevilla reported the 31-year-old will travel this week to complete his move to the La Liga side.

A fresh report from the same newspaper provides the latest on the Newcastle player’s move to Sevilla.

The Greece international arrived in Seville on Monday afternoon to undergo medical tests and sign the contract with the Andalusian club.

Vlachodimos completed his medical yesterday as ABC Sevilla now report his transfer should be made official today.

Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda wants the Magpies man to provide tough competition to Ørjan Nyland for a place in the starting lineup. At the same time, his arrival should push another goalkeeper, Álvaro Fernández, towards the exit door.

Tuesday’s edition of AS also reports Vlachodimos arrived in Spain yesterday to formalise his move to Sevilla.

They have reached an agreement with Newcastle to sign him on loan without an option or obligation to buy. AS states: ‘The parties believe the best option will be determined next summer.’

This indicates the Magpies could earn a fee if Sevilla decide to buy Vlachodimos at the end of this season.

He’d been restricted to one appearance since joining Eddie Howe’s side last summer. The Greek goalkeeper will be hoping for his situation to improve drastically at Sevilla this season.
