Man Utd 'decide on Carlos Baleba bid' as Brighton midfielder makes transfer desire clear

Manchester United will submit an official bid for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, but only if the club believe that a deal is possible, according to reports. The Red Devils have locked onto Baleba as their next target in what has become a blockbuster transfer window at Old Trafford, but are not guaranteed a successful pursuit.

Brighton have forged a strong reputation as strict sellers over the years, generating eye-watering transfer fees for players they have signed on the cheap and developed. Baleba is no different, flourishing into one of the Premier League's most highly-rated midfielders since his £26million arrival from Lille in 2023.

According to The Athletic, United have so far explored the 21-year-old's willingness to join Ruben Amorim's project via intermediaries, as well as his salary demands and Brighton's potential asking price.

Baleba is said to be keen on joining and has been in contact with multiple members of the Old Trafford dressing room to learn about the current environment and vision.

Personal terms would not be a problem, but Brighton do not intend to sell Baleba, who is under contract at the Amex Stadium until 2028.

It's claimed that United are determined to back Amorim in his first summer transfer window, though, and the addition of a defensive-minded midfielder is considered essential.

The report adds that United are not expected to make a formal offer for Baleba unless they receive encouragement that a deal is possible.
