REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

What can FPL managers expect from Vitor Pereira at Wolves? 4

FORM UNDER PEREIRA

Winless in the first 10 matches, Wolves found themselves on merely nine points after 16 of them. A festive home defeat to Ipswich Town was the final straw for Gary O’Neil, swiftly replaced in the dugout by former Porto, Olympiakos and Fenerbahce boss Vitor Pereira.

Things immediately improved with two victories and Wolves went on to collect 32 points from Pereira’s first 18 league outings. A period of seven clean sheets and the Old Gold’s six consecutive spring wins allowed them to secure top-flight safety with several weeks remaining.

They’d have been 12th in a table between Gameweeks 17 and 38.

IMPROVED DEFENCE

Sticking with their backline, just the relegated three conceded more goals (69), but a lot of that damage was under O’Neil.

Wolves ended in joint ninth for preventing opposition attempts (473). Since Pereira arrived, only Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion allowed fewer shots on target (81).

It meant there was FPL unluckiness, as no team were worse in comparison to their expected goals conceded (xGC) tally. They should’ve let in 58.66, not 69.
