The 25-year-old has been banished from Eddie Howe’s first team squad and it is believed he has no intentions to reintegrate himself.
Newcastle’s position is they do not want to sell the striker, but they have been exploring potential replacements.
They missed out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, while Nicolas Jackson remains of interest.
Liverpool saw a £110m bid turned down earlier this summer and have not returned with a second offer.

There has been no further dialogue between the two clubs and they will not bid again unless given encouragement by Newcastle that their stance has changed.
There are echoes of their pursuit of Anthony Gordon last summer, which ultimately failed.
Newcastle begin their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa on Saturday, with Isak unlikely to be involved.
Meanwhile, Liverpool face Bournemouth on Friday before the two teams clash on the second week of the season.
Alex Crook's verdict
talkSPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook gives you the inside story on what has been happening with Isak.
Isak has told Newcastle he won't play for them again even if they don't sanction a move away from Liverpool in this transfer window.

Clearly this is an alarming situation as far as Newcastle and Eddie Howe are concerned but not a massive surprise when you look at how Isak has conducted himself over the course of the summer.
He didn't go with the rest of his Newcastle teammates to their pre-season tour to Singapore, he didn't attend the Newcastle training ground to undergo treatment on a thigh injury, instead decided to get himself on a flight to Spain and use facilities at his former club Real Sociedad.
Since Newcastle returned from their pre-season tour he's been training away from the rest of the group.
Now that is as much Eddie Howe's decision I'm told as it is Isak himself. Eddie Howe is a manager who puts a lot of stock in loyalty and I've said it a few times on talkSPORT in the last few weeks and certainly in the last few days that when you look at Eddie Howe's body language, his demeanour, what he's been saying about the Isal situation, I think he's hurt by the way that his star striker has conducted himself this summer.
This is a player that Newcastle gave the opportunity to apply his trade in the Premier League. They spent £65m to sign him from Real Sociedad, Premier League rivals weren't exactly queuing up to do that deal and Eddie Howe has made him the main man at St James' Park.
Yes he repaid the manager with the first major trophy in decades last season, firing them into the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

But this is not the type of behaviour that will go down well with Eddie Howe and I think as much as Isak wants to get out of Newcastle, I'm going to say it, I think Eddie Howe probably wants a shot of him now as well. He knows he's a great player but he's not going to be happy with his conduct.
Who do you think you are?
talkSPORT's Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor were fuming with the news and read Isak the riot act.
Agbonlahor said: “Wow. Who does he think he is? I can have banter with Newcastle, but who do you think you are?
“Disgusting. What that club has done for you.”
McCoist added: “If you are Liverpool and Liverpool fans, is that the sort of player that you want? He will do that to you.”
