15 clubs keen on Manchester United talent amid Sheffield Wednesday talks

Sheffield Wednesday target Harry Amass has interest from as many as 15 clubs with a Manchester United loan exit beckoning, as per The Athletic.

Sheffield Wednesday finally have some freedom to make moves on the transfer front after the EFL lifted their transfer embargoes. An SWFC crisis has rumbled on all summer, and uncertainty remains.

Protests against owner Dejphon Chansiri have taken place upon the start of the season, with the Thai businessman urged to sell up amid his persisting failure to pay staff, HMRC bills and outstanding transfer payments.

The lifting of their registration ban means free agents and loans can now be pursued though, and one player the Owls are keen to sign on a temporary basis is Manchester United left-back Harry Amass.

However, according to The Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday will have a big uphill battle in the pursuit of the teenage defender.

They report that as many as 15 clubs are interested in signing Amass. He has several admirers in the Championship alongside SWFC, though none are named, while teams in Europe are also keen.

Game time will be key in deciding where Amass heads as both he and parent club Manchester United weigh up the next steps in his development.

Can Sheffield Wednesday offer Harry Amass a starting role?

It isn’t a surprise that Amass is prioritising game time when deciding his first loan club. He has tasted senior action and impressed at Manchester United, so he has the chance to really kick on in the 2025/26 campaign if he makes the right move.

Given the lack of squad depth at Sheffield Wednesday, Amass would certainly get opportunities there. However, the presence of Max Lowe offers food for thought.

It had been said that the left-sided defender was set to walk away from his contract at SWFC, but he has remained and started on the left of a back five against Leicester City. That is the role Amass would want to occupy, so his route into the starting XI may not be completely clear.

Lowe could yet move on though, and even if he stays, he may slot in on the left of the back three in Gabriel Otegbayo’s place. That would open up the left wing-back role for Amass.

A busy end to the window ahead for SWFC

In a scramble to strengthen their squad late on, Sheffield Wednesday are said to have as many as 60 players shortlisted as potential targets.

They will be a mix of free agents and possible loan signings, with Amass among the latter. It sets up to be a hectic final few weeks of the summer transfer window for SWFC, though that could change with the click of a finger if Chansiri fails to meet payments and another embargo is placed upon the club.

As such, Wednesday need to do what they can to get new players in, and fast.
