Tottenham Hotspur have rejoined the race for Eberechi Eze in the wake of James Maddison’s injury, with Arsenal remaining interested in the Crystal Palace player.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday morning that Tottenham Hotspur were back in talks for Eberechi Eze following James Maddison’s ACL injury. Romano claimed Eze is keen, but that a deal depends on Crystal Palace.
Ben Jacobs writes that Spurs had previously decided not to move for Eze this summer, but Maddison’s injury means he’s now a genuine target. Jacobs adds that Arsenal still hold an interest, and neither club have bid to Palace at this stage.
Sami Mokbel confirms that Arsenal also still have an interest in Eze, but the club are trying to move players on first. The BBC journalist adds that it remains to be seen whether Spurs joining the race will see the Gunners accelerate their move.

Ed Aarons reports for The Guardian that Arsenal are still very keen and remain in constant contact with Eze’s representatives, but again he confirms that the Gunners want to move players on before bidding.
Jacob Steinberg’s piece for the same outlet lists a couple of positives for Arsenal, primarily that the player is believed to prefer the Gunners over their north London rivals.
The other boost is that Spurs don’t intend to pay the £68m asking price. Arsenal have already shown a reluctance to do so, so if Spurs had been willing to make such a bid it would have been bad news.

Even so, Spurs’ return to the race isn’t encouraging for Arsenal’s chances of signing Eze. At worst, he may be taken off the market before the Gunners raise the funds for their own bid. At best, Spurs will help to drive up the price a little.
