German side offer Liverpool star four-year contract

The Premier League season begins on Friday when champions Liverpool host Bournemouth.

Arne Slot guided his side to a league triumph in his first season in charge at Anfield, and the Dutchman will hope to see his side begin the defence of their crown with victory on Friday.

The Reds have added a number of new players to Slot’s squad, including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, however they were beaten on penalties by FA Cup holders Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday.

New Liverpool signing Milos Kerkez is in line to face his old club on his Anfield debut, having joined the Reds from the Cherries earlier this summer.

With the end of the transfer window fast approaching, it appears that one member of Slot’s squad could still leave Anfield.

According to CaughtOffside, German side RB Leipzig have offered midfielder Harvey Elliott a four-year deal as they attempt to lure the player away from Merseyside.

The report claims that the Bundesliga outfit regard Elliott as the ideal replacement for Dutchman Xavi Simons, who is closing in on a move to Chelsea.

Elliott, 22, joined the Reds’ youth system from Fulham back in 2019 and has since progressed into the first team, making 148 appearances across all competitions.

He only started two of Liverpool’s 38 Premier League games last term, but did then star as England Under-21s won the European Championships earlier this summer.

The report suggests that Leipzig are in negotiations with Liverpool over a potential deal, with the player himself open to the idea of leaving Anfield as he is keen to secure more regular first team football next season.

Elliott’s contract with Liverpool is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 season, but it appears increasingly likely that he could depart the Premier League champions before the end of the current transfer window.
