With the Premier League season kicking off on Friday (August 15), many clubs are rushing to complete moves so that they can hit the ground running. Spurs have already been busy this week, looking to secure the transfer of Savinho from Manchester City. However, it appears that they would like to strengthen their attacking options further. Tottenham Hotspur are now revisiting a deal for Eberechi Eze, with Arsenal still interested.
Tottenham Hotspur to Attempt Hijack On Arsenal Target
Separate Deal From Savinho
Paul O Keefe first broke the news in the early hours of this morning (August 12) that Tottenham have made contact with Crystal Palace over a deal for Eze. Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that the Lilywhites are “back in talks” for the Englishman. He reveals that this deal will be separate from their pursuit of Savinho; in an ideal world, they want to sign both as attacking options. Romano suggests that this is linked to Heung-min Son‘s departure and James Maddison‘s recent ACL injury.

Arsenal are still interested in the 27-year-old, though are currently focused on outgoings with Leandro Trossard, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira set to leave, Sami Mokbel of the BBC reveals. Tottenham fans will be delighted to hear that there is a chance of them hijacking this deal from their rivals, with Romano reporting that Eze is “keen” on a Spurs move. Ultimately, the deal is down to Palace, as his release clause is no longer active.
Eberechi Eze Solves Tottenham’s Number Ten Issue
Thomas Frank had a real issue on his hands, as he was set to begin the campaign with no fit number ten. Dejan Kulusevski is out with an injury from last season, and Maddison has suffered an ACL injury in pre-season. This had led some to speculate that Savinho may be the new central playmaker.
However, Eze would perfectly solve this issue as he is more naturally a midfielder. This would allow Savinho and fellow newcomer Mohammed Kudus to play wide and thrive in their natural positions. This would be a dangerous attacking trio to play behind striker Dominic Solanke. Even the likes of Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson provide strong depth from the bench.

Furthermore, when Maddison and Kulusevski return, Eze is more than capable of playing wide, which will allow for a variety of different combinations for Frank to trial. He is perfect for solving Spurs’ short-term problem whilst not creating a selection headache in the long-term.
