SAINTS are set to reject West Ham's opening transfer offer for Mateus Fernandes without even considering it, the _Daily Echo_ understands.
The Hammers have made their move for the in-demand 21 year old midfielder, who was Southampton's Player of the Year last campaign.
An opening bid with a fee of under £30million has been reported elsewhere, for the player who Saints purchased for £15m from Sporting CP last year.
The _Daily Echo_ understands that Saints will reject West Ham's offer outright, with the total fee and payment terms both considered unsatisfactory.
Fernandes appeared as a substitute in Saturday's 2-1 win over Wrexham, which saw Will Still win his first Championship match in charge of Saints.
Last week, Still was asked about Fernandes and said: "We've given him time and a bit of space and a bit of clear thoughts on what he wants to do.
"He's missed a few days training, most of last week, so he's building back up to being ready. But he's there, he's confident and he wants to be here."
The St Mary's side invested £15m into the Portuguese youth international just 12 months ago because they believed he has significant potential.
Fernandes remains under contract for a further four years, with Saints not feeling under pressure to sell him at a lower price despite relegation.
