Manchester City player was waiting for Tottenham but they left him waiting too long

Tottenham Hotspur fans have accused the club of twiddling their thumbs this summer and it looks like another transfer target has now come and gone.

James McAtee made 27 appearances for Man City last season across all competitions, scoring seven goals, but the Tottenham target is reportedly keen on leaving the Etihad Stadium in search of regular game time.

Over the weekend, it was reported by TBR Football that Spurs had accelerated their move for McAtee after receiving confirmation on the seriousness of James Maddison’s injury.

According to a new update, Thomas Frank’s men may have missed out on a big opportunity with the Man City starlet.

James McAtee was waiting for Tottenham to make a move

GiveMeSport claimed this week that the England Under-21 international was waiting for Spurs to make a move after being made aware of the North London club’s interest.

Tottenham were even said to have reached out to McAtee’s agent about a move to N17.

Thomas Frank’s learned that McAtee was ‘very keen’ on making a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the youngster simply waiting to see whether Spurs would actually launch an offer.

Unfortunately, that offer never came and Fabrizio Romano reports that McAtee is now close to joining Nottingham Forest instead.

Tottenham are still assessing their options for the number 10 role

GiveMeSport say that the Lilywhites rate McAtee highly and are not put off by City’s £40m valuation.

However, the 22-year-old is not the only attacking midfielder that Tottenham are interested in, with the North London club’s recruitment department continuing to assess their options.

Over recent weeks, the likes of Bilal El Khannouss, Harvey Elliott, and Eberechi Eze have all been linked with a move to Spurs.
