Robbie Fowler says he really wishes he could’ve played with ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool player

Robbie Fowler played with some absolutely fantastic players during his time at Liverpool.

Indeed, Robbie Fowler worked with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and John Barnes at Liverpool, and he was fairly successful across that period.

Now, speaking to The Redmen TV, Fowler has been discussing which current Liverpool player he’d most like to play with.

Of course, Liverpool have some top talents in their ranks right now. Mohamed Salah is a Ballon d’Or contender this year.

However, according to Fowler, there’s another ‘unbelievable’ player in the Liverpool squad he’d like to play with.

Robbie Fowler wishes he’d played with Virgil van Dijk

Fowler was asked which current Liverpool player does he wish he had in his team back in the day.

The striker took a minute to think before naming Virgil van Dijk as his dream teammate, stating that he thinks the Dutch defender is simply ‘unbelievable’ as a player.

“If you could pick one player from this Liverpool team to put into one of the Liverpool teams you played in, who are you taking?” Fowler was asked.

“One player? I’d probably take Virgil, I think he’s unbelievable,” Fowler said.

What Robbie Fowler said when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk

Fowler is clearly a big fan of Van Dijk, and his admiration for the Dutchman dates back to his pre-Liverpool career.

Indeed, Fowler hailed Van Dijk as soon as he signed for the Reds.

“He’s been what Liverpool have been crying out for for years,” he told the Premier League’s official website.

“He’s a commanding centre-back, a commanding presence – he talks and organises. Liverpool haven’t had that since Carragher left.”

Van Dijk has, of course, exceeded all expectations since signing for Liverpool, and now, Van Dijk is seen as the best defender in the world by some.

Who knows? Maybe if the Liverpool team of the 1990s had Van Dijk in their backline they’d have won a Premier League title during that barren era.
