Leeds United secure surprise cash boost after player exit – Smart business

Leeds United are spinning several plates going into the final few weeks of the transfer window as the recruitment team come under pressure to deliver the forwards Daniel Farke wants. The manager has made it clear he needs those signings in the final third before the window closes on September 1st.

Sporting director Adam Underwood did well to bring in seven new signings even before August, as Leeds secured midfield, defensive and goalkeeper reinforcements well before the start of the new season. However, negotiations over forwards seem to have stalled over the last few weeks.

Leeds are also working on several outgoing moves as well, with Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt securing loan moves to Mallorca and Hull City, respectively. The Whites also hope to offload Patrick Bamford and Illan Meslier before the transfer window closes.

The club are keen to secure fees from certain departures, but the club are also not shying away from securing arrangements that will bring in a future cash windfall to Elland Road.

Leeds United secure future windfall through player departure

Diogo Monteiro secured a move away from Leeds this week when he joined Portuguese side Arouca on a permanent deal.

The Whites signed the young defender in 2023 and played 40 times for the Leeds Under-21s without ever making his debut for the senior side.

It is unclear how much Leeds earned from the Portugal Under-20 international’s sale to Arouca, but it is not expected to be a major fee.

However, according to Record via Sport Witness, the Whites have secured a potential windfall in the future if Monteiro makes an impression in Portugal and earns a big move in the near future.

Leeds still own 50 percent of the player, which means the club would be due half of any transfer fee Arouca earns from his sale in the future.

The Whites will hope that Monteiro does well at Arouca and earns himself a significantly big move to ensure Leeds get a large cash windfall from his next transfer.

The state of transfers at Leeds at the moment

While Moteiro could earn Leeds a significant fee in the future, the club have more immediate concerns ahead of their opening Premier League game.

As things stand, Farke has no other option but to start Joel Piroe or Lukas Nmecha as the number 9 against Everton, unless a new striker arrives in the next few days.

Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss appears to be slipping away, and Atalanta have made a move on Rodrigo Muniz.

Leeds are yet to table another formal bid for a winger since missing out on Igor Paixao despite holding interest in Liverpool’s Ben Doak and Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa.

With the clock ticking down on the transfer window, Leeds fans are worried that players of the required quality might not arrive before September 1st.
