Hull City have been linked with a loan move for Manchester United starlet Toby Collyer. Sun journalist Alan Nixon claims the Tigers are keen on signing the youngster but face competition from beleaguered Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Worthing-born Collyer has been United's books since March 2022 after being recruited from the academy at Brighton and Hove Albion. He made six Premier League appearances last season and also featured four times in the Europa League as the Red Devils reached the final.
But the midfielder's opportunities to stake a claim at first team level are likely to be limited during the 2025/26 season following a summer of change at Old Trafford. Head coach Ruben Amorim has spent big in the transfer market to turn around their ailing fortunes.
A new defensive midfielder is high on City's priority list with less than three weeks to go until the transfer market shuts. Any potential deal for Collyer would require United's assistance as the Tigers are unable to play a loan fee under the terms of their three-window fee restriction. Approval from the English Football League would also be needed.
Cash-strapped Wednesday are also reportedly in the hunt to sign Collyer. The Owls, beaten in their opening day fixture by Leicester City, are also looking to recruit Collyer's United teammate Harry Amass on a temporary basis after having their transfer embargo lifted. Left-back Amass is said to be in talks over a loan move to Hillsborough and it is understood the Premier League giants would not be looking to get a fee for what would be regarded as a development loan.
