Newcastle United have distanced themselves from a potential move for Goncalo Ramos, with sources indicating the Paris Saint-Germain striker is not a true priority for the Magpies at this point in the transfer window.
Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reports that although Ramos was recently floated as a possible replacement for Alexander Isak, the club’s focus has since shifted.
“I’m told this is very unlikely now,” Hope wrote, adding that despite PSG’s openness to a sale, Newcastle are looking elsewhere.
The Portuguese forward, 24, was previously considered a viable “big-ticket” option amid uncertainty over Isak’s future. But Hope made it clear the club’s recruitment strategy has pivoted.
“Newcastle’s search is focused on other areas as we approach the weekend,” Hope reported.
The decision comes as Newcastle continue to revise their striker shortlist on a near-daily basis, with targets like Yoane Wissa, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Muniz gaining traction. Wissa, in particular, has expressed a strong desire to join and is viewed internally as a forward who could contribute immediately.
While Ramos may have fit the age and profile Newcastle were seeking earlier in the window, sources now suggest his price tag and PSG’s negotiating stance are no longer aligned with the club’s direction.
