As Alleyne prepares to become more involved, youth football expert The Secret Scout analyses his skills and where he will need to develop in order to take the step from age-group teams into the Championship.
When did you first become aware of Alleyne?
I saw him when he was an Under-14 player at Southampton. He was playing a few years up and he was clearly a standout player.
I've been following his progress through to Manchester City, where he has played lots of Premier League 2 (PL2) and UEFA Youth League football.

How highly do you rate him?
He's extremely promising and has been helped by having a mixture of coaching styles at Southampton and Man City.
Sometimes defenders at Man City become excellent in possession but defensively they don’t get tested as much. This is why loan moves are vital for them to improve.

Alleyne is excellent in possession and will help Watford build and break the opposition press, which is a huge part of the game nowadays.
He is able to pick out quick, intelligent passes that help his team work overloads and play their way up the pitch.
PL2 is known as less physical than senior football, with skills like heading and defending the box less developed. Is that fair?
Yes for sure, this is why loans are important.
PL2 is a false reality. By Christmas, he will probably have headed the ball more times than he did throughout his entire PL2 career.
He will need be a quick learner of these skills as the Championship is relentless and unforgiving.

Having played virtually no senior minutes, how tough will it be to jump into Championship first-team football?
The first loan move for any young player coming out of PL2 is a huge learning curve.
Stepping into the Championship he will face different situations and players with hundreds of league appearances.

Do you see him having a future at Manchester City?
It depends how he does on this loan.
City spent big on Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov in January, which just shows how difficult it is to get into that team.
It's hard to say now but I'm sure he has a big career ahead of him either at City or elsewhere.

Overall, do you see this move becoming a success?
From Alleyne's point of view it will great opportunity for him to show what he can do in the Championship.
Watford will have identified him as somebody who can play in their style – and I’m hopeful it’s a great loan for him and Watford fans see a player with huge potential.
