TalkSPORT pundit says Chelsea will ‘probably win the Premier League’ if they sign £40m defender

Chelsea have been told they could win the Premier League in the upcoming season if they sign one player in defence.

It is a good time to be a Chelsea supporter because the team goes into the new 2025/26 campaign with plenty of momentum behind them. Enzo Maresca’s side will be looking to build on last season’s fourth-placed finish in the Premier League, which they followed up by lifting the Club World Cup and Conference League trophies.

Micah Richards claims Chelsea can challenge for the Premier League title if they sign a top central defender.

Unfortunately, Blues centre-half Levi Colwill is facing a long spell on the sidelines because of an ACL injury. Will the club act to sign a replacement during the remainder of the summer transfer window?

Adrian Durham says Marc Guehi signing may elevate Chelsea to Premier League title

According to talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham, Chelsea will “probably” become the Premier League champions in the new season if they sign Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

Durham told talkSPORT: “If Chelsea go and get Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace I think Chelsea probably win the league.

“I know I’ve said Arsenal but we’re talking with a few weeks left of the window. So if things change dramatically, if Liverpool go and sign Guehi and Alexander Isak there’s no competition. They’ve won the league.

“But I think if Chelsea improve at the back (they will win the league).”

Guehi, 25, has been a key player at Selhurst Park since Chelsea sold him to Palace in 2021. Now, the Eagles captain is linked with a potential return to West London.

The ball-playing centre-back has been a key figure in Oliver Glasner’s side, helping them to win the Community Shield at the weekend against Liverpool.

Back in May, Chelsea were lining up a move for Guehi, who could be sold by Palace because he’s entering the final year of his contract with them. With just a few weeks left in the summer window, he’s still at Selhurst Park for now.

The latest rumours around Marc Guehi’s future

Palace are demanding £40m for Guehi, which looks like a massive bargain in the current market for an England starter and proven Premier League star.

However, The Telegraph recently claimed that Guehi is not currently on Chelsea’s transfer agenda. Instead, Liverpool are in pole position for the defender should he move clubs in the next few weeks.

It’s been claimed elsewhere that Chelsea may look at signing a centre-back on loan to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season. If not, they will still have a talented crop of central defenders such as Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile Trevoh Chalobah to select from.
