Chelsea and Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Gianluigi Donnarumma could soon part ways with PSG, as he is no longer an undisputed starter for the French giants. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it will be interesting where he ends up playing his football in the 2025/26 season.
According to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea and Manchester United are both keen on acquiring his services, and they have begun preliminary talks to determine the Italian international’s availability. Donnarumma is keen on playing in the Premier League, and it is a massive boost for the English giants.
The AC Milan graduate joined PSG in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer. He has been their go-to goalkeeper ever since. However, a lot has changed in the recent past because of his contract situation. With his current deal running out in 12 months, the Ligue 1 giants were working hard to secure his long-term future.
While they were ready to increase Gianluigi Donnarumma’s wages, they intended to link any salary increase to his performances and the number of appearances he would make, but the idea did not convince Donnarumma and his representatives.
After several unsuccessful attempts to renew his deal, PSG now seem open to sanctioning his departure. Les Parisiens have already added Lucas Chevalier to their ranks in a deal worth €55 million. Luis Enrique has already internally communicated that the young French goalkeeper will be the number one going forward.
Premier League giants want Donnarumma
With contract talks not going his way and Chevalier set to take over as the number one, Gianluigi Donnarumma is also ready to leave the French giants. Given the 26-year-old’s current situation, Chelsea and Manchester United see this as a great market opportunity to strengthen their goalkeeping position.
The Blues are not convinced by the performances of their current goalkeepers. They want a more reliable option in goal to bolster their defence as a whole, and the AC Milan graduate fits the bill. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim was not pleased with Andre Onana’s performance and wants a new goalkeeper who can challenge him for a place in the starting XI.
Both Premier League clubs have started talks with PSG to understand what it would take to sign the Italian goalkeeper. While Chelsea and Manchester United are yet to table an offer, they are quite serious about their pursuit.
Donnarumma has a massive admiration for English football, and he has already expressed his desire to play in the Premier League at some point in private conversations, which suggests Chelsea and Manchester United have a massive advantage in the race for his signature.
