‘Result will come’… Man Utd drop exciting injury update on fan-favourite ace’s road to recovery, Rio Ferdinand reacts

Manchester United’s spine-chilling update for an injured key first-team player at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim even caught the eye of club legend Rio Ferdinand.

Ruben Amorim has signed off his first pre-season tour at the Premier League club as Manchester United manager after his arrival from Sporting CP back in 2024.

The 40-year-old Sporting CP boss took charge during the 2024-25 Premier League season and oversaw a tough period at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

United faced Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday and the Red Devils defeated the Serie A outfit on penalties in their final pre-season friendly match of the summer.

Amorim has been able to alternate his United first-team options this summer and experiment with key players and talent from the United youth academy as well.

However, the United manager still faces uncertainty over different injured players ahead of the new season, including Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez.

The Red Devils share a teasing update on injured Man Utd star Lisandro Martinez ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season

Lisandro Martinez has missed the pre-season tour with Manchester United this summer and the former Ajax ace has been working on his recovery to full fitness.

The 27-year-old Argentine defender was dealt a major setback during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee.

Lisandro Martinez suffered the injury in United’s Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford back in February and he missed the remainder of last season.

The Argentina international underwent successful surgery on his injury and Martinez has since returned to the Carrington training complex for his rehabilitation process.

Manchester United’s official website and social media pages shared a spine-tingling montage of Martinez and the compilation showed his remarkable path to recovery.

Speaking in the narration of the clip, United star Martinez said: “You have to fight until the end; it’s the only way.

“You have to work every day and then the result will come.”

Rio Ferdinand’s telling response after Man Utd’s eye-catching video update on the injured Lisandro Martinez

Sky Sports reported in June that Lisandro Martinez had been placed on an ‘individual programme’ during the summer to allow the defender to recover at his own pace.

The World Cup winner has become a key player for the Red Devils manager and Martinez has played as the left-sided centre-back in Ruben Amorim’s United system.

Rio Ferdinand was spotted in the Instagram comments of United’s post on Martinez and the Red Devils legend was impressed with the injured star’s recovery process.

The 46-year-old United legend wrote: “I think we need a pull ups [sic] gym session!!”

Martinez’s return date for United has not been confirmed and the Red Devils centre-back is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
