Sources: Man Utd considering making bid to sign 'exceptional' star, personal terms no issue

Manchester United are not ruling out making a formal bid to sign Brighton star Carlos Baleba this summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed on the latest episode of the Market Madness podcast.

The Red Devils have had a successful summer window so far upgrading their attacking options, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all completing moves to Old Trafford, as Ruben Amorim prioritised a new forward line.

However, the club has now turned its attention to strengthening the midfield, with Cameroon international Baleba emerging as their top target in recent days.

Man Utd have explored a deal to sign the 'exceptional' 21-year-old Baleba in recent weeks, and have held talks about a move via intermediaries. GIVEMESPORT sources understand that personal terms are not believed to be an issue.

However, Brighton have made their stance on a move at this stage very clear. The Seagulls have zero interest in selling the midfielder this summer, with an exit far more likely to be sanctioned next summer instead.

Sources understand that part of the season for that is they feel his performances in the upcoming season would raise his value even further, with the club looking at a similar valuation to the £115m they sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for. But Man Utd are assessing whether a deal could be possible this summer instead, as they are aware the player has big interest from elsewhere too.

GIVEMESPORT sources understand that INEOS may yet test Brighton's stance with a formal bid, especially if they are to be given any encouragement by the club.

Any deal would hinge on Man Utd being able to complete their planned sales, but there is budget to do a deal alongside those sales due to having an extended revolving credit facility, coupled with it being the start of the financial year.

Old Trafford chiefs are planning in advance and anticipate some big exits in the summer of 2026 too, potentially including captain Bruno Fernandes, which could also help them to fund a deal this summer on their accounting books.

It's understood that Brighton have not quoted a price to Man Utd as things stand, but their valuation is expected to be high due to his high potential and the fact he is contract at the Amex Stadium until 2028 with a club option for a further 12 months.

Man United boss Ruben Amorim has identified Baleba as the perfect option to bolster his midfield as he targets a ball-winner who is athletic in the centre of the pitch, while Baleba's ability on the ball is also something that the Portuguese coach likes. A deal is believed to be difficult to do, but Man Utd have not ruled it out entirely and they could raise the stakes with an offer ahead of the deadline on September 1st.
