Newcastle United going for gold next season as EFL launch new sleeve badge for champions

ยท 12 August 2025, 13:30

**Newcastle United will become the first team to wear a new gold Carabao Cup badge on their sleeve next season.**

As the current holders of the Carabao Cup Trophy, Newcastle will wear the new gold badge next season, as confirmed by the official club site this morning.

The EFL Cup is 65 years old this year, and has gone under many different guises over the years, but has been known as the Carabao Cup since 2017 in a deal which runs until 2027.

Other names over the years have included the Carling Cup, Coca-Cola Cup and the Milk Cup, but it has always been the same competition underneath the sponsor.

Looks good

Past winners will sport the number of times they've won the competition on their sleeve

Past winners will have the opportunity to wear an amended badge which will sport the number of times they have won the trophy, but that badge will still be the iconic Carabao green.

The gold badge sported by Newcastle will obviously hold the number one within its design to mark their first time winning the competition.

Newcastle have enjoyed good times in the Carabao Cup, with last season being the second time they've reached the final under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle will get an easier run to the final this season

The Magpies will enter the competition in round three this year, thanks to their participation in the Champions League, meaning the Magpies have one fewer round to get through to retain their title.

There will also be a separate round three draw, keeping European sides apart in the third round like last season, which means Newcastle should get an easier draw first time out.

Can we become the first gold badge wearers to retain the trophy, too? Why not, eh?
