Leeds United learn Rodrigo Muniz decision as Fulham have been ‘informed’ - journalist

Long-term Leeds United target Rodrigo Muniz has reportedly informed Fulham of his preferred next move as his long-running transfer saga looks set to finally end.

Leeds have been chasing a deal to bring Rodrigo Muniz to West Yorkshire since the start of the transfer window as they look to strengthen their attacking options for their Premier League return.

However, as the transfer saga has dragged on, Leeds have turned their attention to other targets such as Mehdi Taremi of Inter Milan and AS Roma’s Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk.

Now, with just days to go until the start of the new season, Muniz’s future looks set to be resolved. In a blow to Daniel Farke, he has communicated his transfer preference to Fulham, and it is not a move to Elland Road.

Leeds United receive Rodrigo Muniz blow

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Muniz has informed Fulham that he would prefer to make a move to Serie A in the current transfer window.

In a post on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), Galetti explained that Muniz wants to join Champions League side Atalanta, in a blow which looks set to end Leeds’ long-standing interest in the player.

According to Galetti, personal terms are not expected to be an issue as the clubs attempt to thrash out a deal which could reach the 40 million euro mark (around £34.5 million).

Whilst Leeds have appeared resigned to missing out on Muniz in recent days, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin became the latest name linked with the Whites, their failure to sign the Brazilian is still a blow to Farke ahead of the new season.

With just days until Leeds’ Premier League opener, their list of options in the transfer market is getting smaller.

Striker impasse could hand Harry Gray Premier League chance

As the season draws ever closer, the departure of Mateo Joseph to Mallorca and the impending exit of set-piece specialist Sam Greenwood mean Leeds’ options in attack are severely limited.

Joel Piroe will almost certainly start against Everton after an impressive pre-season campaign; however, the options behind him are few and far between, with Patrick Bamford also expected to leave.

Leeds United’s current attacking options:

Joel Piroe

Lukas Nmecha

Patrick Bamford

Harry Gray

Assuming that Bamford is not in contention to face the Toffees, new signing Lukas Nmecha is the only experienced option to support Piroe as he prepares for his Leeds debut.

This could open the door for the prodigiously talented Harry Gray to take his place on the bench, having made his Championship debut last season and been a regular part of Farke’s squad during pre-season.
