Decisive Everton transfer move floated once again – Financial power gives them an edge

Everton and Roma could do battle for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luís, with both clubs in the mix.

That’s according to Il Tempo, [via Voce Giallo Rossa](https://www.vocegiallorossa.it/primo-piano/calciomercato-roma-nessuna-offerta-ufficiale-per-florentino-everton-interessato-270743), who report that Roma are yet to make a bid for the midfielder despite reports.

They explain that while the Benfica midfielder is particularly appreciated at Roma and by director of football Frederic Massara, that hasn’t turned into a concrete bid as yet.

The Italian side are preferring to monitor the situation, particularly as Benfica have put a €25m asking price on the player this summer. Roma have already made significant investments this summer and are moving carefully to avoid financially burdensome deals before freeing up more space in the squad.

That’s opened the door for Everton, who have a longstanding interest in the midfielder. They’ve been linked since last summer and on numerous occasions already this summer.

Il Tempo say that they have ‘greater financial resources’ than Roma, who are their sister club now as both are owned by the Friedkin Group, and could make a more decisive approach for Luís in the coming weeks. That, in turn, would put pressure on Roma.

Now we would point out that Everton have consistently been linked with Luís and it’s always been a case of could, rather than will, when it comes to him.

This is more of the same from Il Tempo, but the potential for a little duel with Roma is there should Everton decide Luís is the one they want and move definitively for him.
