Shedeur Sanders compared to all-time greats after first preseason game

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is receiving plenty of hype after his strong showing against the Carolina Panthers in his preseason debut.

Sports media personality Skip Bayless is already comparing Sanders to arguably the greatest quarterback of all time in seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

Bayless posted a lengthy video on X after Sanders performed well against the Panthers on Friday. He pointed out that Brady helped mentor Sanders and added that the former Colorado star reminds him of Brady.

“I kept saying, ‘What is not to love about Shedeur?’ Arm strength? Are you kidding? Did you watch him at Colorado? He has effortless arm strength,” Skip Bayless said. “He doesn’t have like a Josh Allen cannon, but who does? Did Tom Brady? Heck no.

“Shedeur, sometimes mentored by Tom Brady. I think that was all for show on Brady’s part, but sometimes mentored by Brady, actually reminds me of Brady, in his feel for playing the position.”

It seems a bit early to be comparing Shedeur Sanders to Tom Brady after he completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns against Carolina.

Bayless didn’t stop there, though, stating that Sanders also reminds him of former Steelers great Ben Roethlisberger.

“They couldn’t get him on the ground,” Bayless said of the Panthers. “He plays strong in the pocket. He’s not the biggest kid at 6-2ish, maybe 205. Not the biggest kid. He just plays strong in the pocket.

“Trust me, he plays Roethlisberger-strong in the pocket. It’s hard to get him on the ground.”

Sanders was sacked twice in the game, but overall he did a nice job of keeping plays alive.

Shedeur Sanders still has a long ways to go to even win the Browns starting quarterback job, let alone be one of the all-time great NFL quarterbacks.

With that said, he did get off to a nice start on Friday, as Bayless was quick to point out.

“Tonight didn’t surprise me at all,” Bayless said. “Did you see how the team responded to him tonight? … He looked so comfortable he made them comfortable. He has such great body language, because his father is Deion Sanders. … He showed you the whole repertoire. He’s got a deep bag. He can make all the throws.

“Remember, Shedeur got thrown into a fire with very few training camp reps. … He looked to me a lot like a No. 1 overall pick tonight, because that’s what he should’ve been."
