Amidst reports that Tottenham Hotspur are pressing forward with talks over a deal to sign Eberechi Eze, journalist Alex Crook has now made a very interesting claim about the attacking midfielder’s release clause.
It was reported by Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday morning that Eze is keen on completing a move to Tottenham if the Lilywhites can agree a fee with Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, journalist Dean Jones claimed that Spurs have a clear understanding of Crystal Palace’s demands for Eze after holding talks with Palace over the last week.
Both of these updates assumed that the attacking midfielder’s release clause had expired, which is why Tottenham would have to hold talks with Eagles for the player, but this has been contradicted by a talkSPORT journalist.

Eberechi Eze’s release clause is valid for a few more days
Alex Crook has now taken to social media to reveal that the Palace star’s release clause did not expire two weeks before the start of the season as initially thought.
He claimed instead that Eze’s £68m release clause is valid until Friday, 15 August.

If that is true, it means Tottenham do not have to enter into negotiations with Palace and can instead simply activate the England international’s clause if they act swiftly, or alternatively look to come to a different payment plan with the FA Cup winners beyond the deadline.
How much would Spurs have to pay for Eze if his release clause expires?
Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs also posted on x to share some further information that even if Eze’s release clause expires, the Eagles still want suitors to pay £68m for their star man.
Jacobs claims that while the 27-year-old is keen on joining Arsenal, he has ‘not discounted’ Tottenham’s project.
He added that Thomas Frank’s side are prepared to move quickly to wrap up a deal for the former QPR man.
