Report: Talks begin for Manchester City to sign £43m player who called Erling Haaland a 'beast' …

Manchester City could yet sign a superstar before transfer deadline day.

No bona fide household names have arrived at the Etihad Stadium this summer, more so players who are on the cusp of becoming leading figures in the game such as Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders.

However – according to Foot Mercato – one top player could genuinely end up at Manchester City this summer in Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City lining up Gianluigi Donnarumma deal

The French news outlet now believe Manchester City have opened talks to sign the Italy international.

PSG are ready to offload Donnarumma after failing to agree a new contract with the Ballon d’Or nominee – who only has 11 months left on his deal and is currently set for free agency in June 2026.

The Parisians have already signed Lucas Chevalier to replace the Italian, who has been dropped from the squad by Luis Enrique for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham.

Foot Mercato believe the Italian is ‘very interested’ in a move to Manchester City and an agreement over personal terms would not be an issue.

Manchester City are seemingly yet to speak to PSG about the deal, with the story only stating that discussions are taking place with the representatives of Donnarumma himself.

Fabrizio Romano followed up on the story with his own information, stating that PSG want €50m (£43m) for the 26-year-old, a fee Manchester City currently feel is too high.

🚨 Manchester City made contact with PSG to ask for Donnarumma deal conditions.

Current PSG request around €50m, deemed too high + deal would only be possible if Éderson leaves.

Donnarumma faced Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League last season, conceding twice before PSG battled back to win 4-2 in the league phase.

The man born in Castellammare di Stabia was very complimentary of Erling Haaland after this clash, telling Sky Sports: “He’s a champion. This was the first time I played against him, and I have to say he’s a beast, a real champion. He’s really strong, and I wish him all the best. He’ll be at the top for many years.”

It all depends on Ederson

Manchester City have already signed James Trafford in a £31m move from Burnley, while Ederson, Stefan Ortega and Marcus Bettinelli are still at the Etihad Stadium, so Donnarumma will not arrive unless a goalkeeper leaves.

However, Galatasaray are pushing to sign Ederson and have already agreed personal terms with the Brazilian, while the aforementioned post from Romano states that a deal for the PSG No.1 simply will not materialise unless the South American leaves.
