This summer has been a busy one in the transfer market for Manchester United and Jason Wilcox still has work to do.
After a 2024/25 campaign which showcased the massive attacking deficiencies, it isn’t a surprise that Manchester United have spent the best part of £200m adding creativity and goals to the offence.
Matheus Cunha – £62.5m
Bryan Mbeumo – £65m
Benjamin Sesko – £66m
To spend so much on the attack could be seen as ill-advised, considering there are other problems with this team, including the midfield.
United are attempting to sign Carlos Baleba with Brighton’s massive £112m asking price clearly being mulled over as the Red Devils are yet to back away, which suggests there is optimism a deal can be reached.
However, even bolstering the midfield wouldn’t be the conclusion for United’s transfer plans this summer, as a goalkeeper is also on the agenda.
Several options have been considered with Andre Onana not viewed as ideal following his struggles last season.

Manchester City join the race to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma
On paper, goalkeeper shouldn’t be a priority for United with Onana capable of being one of the best in the world, although he hasn’t shown this at United.
Due to this, United have been considering several goalkeepers this summer with Senne Lammens among the potential additions.

Although, United have also been linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the Italian set to leave PSG this summer after the European champions replaced him with Lucas Chevalier.
However, now Fabrizio Romano has tweeted to reveal United are not alone in wanting to sign Donnarumma, with Man City in the race.
The journalist tweeted to reveal that City have made contact to sign Donnarumma this summer, asking PSG the conditions of a possible deal.
🚨 Manchester City made contact with PSG to ask for Donnarumma deal conditions.
Current PSG request around €50m, deemed too high + deal would only be possible if Éderson leaves.

PSG’s £43m asking price is beyond City right now, and this deal would only be possible if Ederson finds himself heading for the door this summer.
In addition, French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has tweeted to reveal that City won’t have any issues with personal terms as Donnarumma is keen on joining the other side of Manchester.
This makes grim reading for anybody who wanted to see United sign Donnarumma, considering City will be able to pay more and probably offer more promise of immediate success.
Donnarumma is a Ballon d’Or nominee this year and would be a serious upgrade, however with Onana going nowhere, it is difficult to see how this deal comes off.
Manchester United should target Senne Lammens instead of Donnarumma
While Donnarumma is a very exciting possible addition which would be a massive statement signing by Ineos, it probably is not the correct one right now.
Signing a goalkeeper on big money, like Donnarumma is a move that we can almost guarantee that Ed Woodward would have made if he were still in power, and that reason alone should see Ineos back away.
Donnarumma to United just sounds like it would be destined to fail, however on the other hand Lammens would fit in perfectly to what Ineos are building.
United are big fans of Lammens and he promises to be one of Europe’s best goalkeepers over the coming years.
So it would be a move to sign a shot stopper who may not be elite right now, but he can grow with the team next season.
