Everton winning the transfer battle for Jack Grealish is being celebrated around Napoli, with a belief that they have ‘dodged a bullet’ this summer.
[Area Napoli cover an article](https://www.areanapoli.it/rassegna-stampa/il-napoli-ha-scansato-una-mina-con-conte-sarebbe-stato-una-sciagura-il-retroscena_603166.html) from Gazzetta dello Sport in which they celebrate Everton beating Napoli to Grealish’s signature.
The Italian champions had been linked with Grealish throughout the summer as they’ve sought to strengthen Antonio Conte’s squad and defend their title this season.
Grealish has instead headed from Manchester City to Everton, who have wrapped up a season-long loan deal for the forward.
The move is certainly being celebrated at The Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Grealish is being hailed as Everton’s major signing of the summer and perhaps the most impressive transfer that they’ve done in the last decade.
It is certainly being seen as a sign of the Toffees’ growing ambition under the Friedkin Group, who promised a big summer transfer window and have so far delivered for manager David Moyes.
While they see only positives in Grealish’s arrival, Napoli are taking a more negative approach, celebrating the fact that they never signed the 29-year-old this summer.
_“Italian clubs have dodged a bullet,”_ journalist Riccardo Pratesi is quoted as saying.
_“A talent who would have been a fish out of water in Serie A. At Napoli with Conte, for me, he would have been a disaster: he’s not a player with pace or pace, but with technique, who slows down the game instead of immediately going vertical.”_
This is continued in the piece itself, where the newspaper aren’t particularly nice about Grealish and even liken him to Manchester United icon George Best.
_“The analogy with Manchester United legend George Best is stark,”_ they wrote.
_“While Best was known for his off-field excesses as much as his on-field brilliance, Grealish appears to have taken a similar path._
_“Grealish’s recent appearances in pubs across England, drinking and socialising with fans, are reminiscent of Gazza’s behaviour. Behaviour that, in the past, preceded a decline. Today, stories about Grealish aren’t about his exploits on the pitch, but about his Ibiza holidays and nights out.”_
They’re obviously not bothered in the slightest to have been beaten. Not one bit.
