Newcastle United have identified Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as one of the top names on their updated striker shortlist, with internal optimism growing about his fit and upside amid continued uncertainty around Alexander Isak.
According to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Larsen has emerged as a “dark horse” candidate after scoring 14 goals in his debut Premier League campaign. Despite Wolves’ struggles last season, Newcastle scouts have returned overwhelmingly positive reports on the 25-year-old Norwegian, both on his finishing and his character.
“Newcastle really like Larsen,” Hope wrote. “Nothing I have heard since has discouraged me from writing about their interest.”
Though the Magpies have yet to make a formal approach, internal discussions have placed Larsen higher on the list than several previously reported targets.
One potential hurdle to acquiring Larsen is the reported £65 million valuation from Wolves — a steep rise from the £23 million they paid to make his move from Celta Vigo permanent earlier this summer.
The club had prioritized Benjamin Sesko before he opted to join Manchester United, leaving NUFC looking at a void.
With Yoane Wissa’s deal tied to Brentford signing a replacement, Newcastle are working parallel tracks in case that move stalls. Ollie Watkins remains admired but could be blocked by both cost and age.
Newcastle want to avoid signing two forwards who will turn 29 this season, Hope added in his report. Larsen, by contrast, would offer years of service and has already adapted to the Premier League — a rare blend of upside and readiness for a club in urgent need of forward stability.
