DeMario Davis recently went on an episode of "Good Morning Football," and recapped the preseason debut of New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough.
Shough, the 25-year-old second round pick out of Louisville, finished his first game completing 15 of 22 pass attempts for 165 yards, a touchdown and an interception. His 54-yard touchdown pass to Mason Tipton came one series after he threw a 43-yard pick six to Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Eric Rogers.
"I think there is no greater representation of New Orleans than what just happened and what we just saw in that five, ten seconds," Davis said after GMF played Shough high, and low, lights. "Think about adversity. What's the worst thing you can do as a quarterback? Throw a pick six. And in his first preseason game, he comes back the next drive and throws a bomb for a TD? Like, that's ultimate resiliency. That's ultimate facing adversity and staring it right in the eye and not blinking. That's incredible. I see the response."
Shough entered the game inside of the two-minute mark of the second quarter as the second quarterback on the team's depth chart. Second-year playcaller Spencer Rattler started under center for the team and completed 7 of his 11 pass attempts for 53 yards.
Davis, a two-time Pro Bowler heading into his 14th season, did not play in the Saints' preseason opener, but he did give the pregame speech. New Orleans lost 27-13 to the Chargers. The Saints return home to face the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 12 p.m. kickoff on Sunday in another preseason battle.
